WEF Teacher Recognition Grants
WEF provides grants to staff
members who have received County, State and/or Federal recognition the previous
school year. This program
encourages and rewards teachers who go beyond the status quo and excel in their
areas of expertise. The $1,000
grant is to be used for classroom and instructional resources.
The most recent recipients were Mr. William Holzapfel, a Social Studies
teacher at Eisenhower Middle School and Ms. Loris Chen, a Science teacher at
Eisenhower Middle School. Mr. Holzapfel was recognized for his invitation to
participate in the Fulbright-Hays Seminars for Teachers Program sponsored by the
US Department of Education. This
past summer, he joined a group of 14 other American teachers on a four-week
program of travel and study throughout South Africa. The goal of the program is to provide teachers with
information and experiences that will enhance their ability to teach about South
Africa. Ms. Chen was recognized as the New Jersey secondary
science teacher recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in
Mathematics and Science Teaching. The
award is given to teachers who serve as models for their colleagues and are
leaders in the improvement of science and mathematics education. WEF Performance Resource Grants
Each year WEF provides funds to enrich the Arts programs throughout the District. The purpose of this grant is to provide students with additional exposure to the Arts, above and beyond the normal Music and Art curriculum. The schools use these funds to hire arts specialists who conduct programs in the areas of drama, music and the visual arts. At Eisenhower Middle School, this grant has also been used to help finance the production of the annual school musical. WEF has budgeted $3,000 for each of the four elementary schools, and $5,000 for Eisenhower this year.
